Apple’s quarterly earnings reports provide a rare opportunity for financial analysts to publicly pose questions to Apple executives. Today, no one granted an audience asked about Apple’s lost iPhone . More

Every year, Hanover, Germany hosts hordes of tech journalists, analysts, and PR people for CeBIT. It’s like CES , sort of, except further away, and more boring. We decided not to go this year; it ends tomorrow. Here’s what we missed! To be clear, these were some of the bigger stories of the conference, at least for American audiences.

The Onion riffs on Google’s privacy issues; Virgin America’s triumphant claim of going Flash-free is sort of a joke; a clever Chatroulette user pranks people into looking at themselves, and more. An analyst is reporting that “an unspecified production problem at the iPad’s manufacturer, Hon Hai Precision, will likely limit the launch region to the US and the number of units available to roughly 300K.” Analysts make poofy, speculative claims that we ignore all the time, but Canccord Adams’ Peter Misek here is reporting that there is an actual “unspecified production problem” happening at Foxconn (the prettier name for Taiwanese manufacturer Hon Hai Precision) resulting in a “manufacturing bottleneck.” Of course, it’s possible he’s still wrong, and a million iPads will flow freely later this month (ooo, is it March already?). But a high-demand, low-supply launch wouldn’t be the worst thing in the world either. It certainly wouldn’t be unprecedented; Christ knows, Amazon and Nintendo that strategy milked it for years . Well, that didn’t take long. Already analysts are crawling out of the woodwork to put the seemingly miraculous Bloom Box fuel cell in its place as yet another energy saving technology that won’t perform as advertised. This week it was IDC Energy Insights analyst Sam Jaffe, who said that while the fuel cell developed by Bloom Energy CEO K.R Sridhar and his team was definitely “not bogus,” it just doesn’t differentiate itself well enough from already available fuel cell technologies—especially as it pertains to price. And the device’s supposedly unique “fuel-switching” ability
