Passat Monster Truck, Ready for The Fast and the Furious: Warsaw Drift [Cars]

by Chemmyone on Mar.11, 2010, under Big Wheels, Cars, Engineering, Passat, Passat 4x4, Passat monster truck, Uncategorized

Usually it’s frustrating to see a kickass video with no background info. This time, I don’t care. I don’t even want to know how or why someone made a Passat 4×4 .

Japanese Otaku Update: Now They’re Indulging In "Factory Night Jungle Cruises" [Japan]

by Chemmyone on Mar.10, 2010, under Factories, Factory, Uncategorized, japan

When planning your next Japan visit, better put aside a night for a “factory night jungle cruise” if you want to be right up there with the latest Japanese otaku craze. They literally visit factories, at night. According to Japan Trends, which brought the fad to our attention, the “factory love” is popular among photographers—which I can understand, as lit-up factories can be quite scenic—but also families and couples too

Samsung’s Barnes & Noble eReader Launch Ruined By the Existence of the Nook [EReaders]

by Chemmyone on Mar.09, 2010, under &, B&n nook, Barnes, E, Ebooks, Noble, Samsung e4, Samsung e4 ereader, Uncategorized, and, eReaders

I respect what Barnes & Noble is doing with this multi-reader ebook strategy, and I’m glad Samsung’s finally been brought in from the cold , into the warm presence of a real ebook collection, but $300 for this thing ? Really? UPDATED A six-inch-screened device with a sliding keypad, the Samsung E6’s biggest draw is probably its stylus, which allows for full, paper-style annotation and notetaking

The German company’s released a few tuner sticks here and there in the US, but like cheese, David Hasselhoff and soccer, Elgato’s far bigger in Europe. Having said that, their latest EyeTV Hybrid dongle could change their situation. The EyeTV Hybrid stick is now both Mac and Windows 7 compatible, with the EyeTV software bundled for Mac users, whereas Windows users can watch TV through Windows Media Center.

LG’s Super-Skinny X300 Netbook On Sale This Month [NetBooks]

by Chemmyone on Mar.08, 2010, under Computer, Laptop, Lg, Uncategorized, netbooks

Seen back in January at CES, the 17.5mm thick LG X300 netbook’s formally been announced as going on sale this month to our South American, Asian and Middle Eastern friends. It’s worth considering if you’re wanting a Windows 7 netbook. Cast your mind back a few months, and you’ll recall it caused quite a storm due to its slinky size. Its 11.6-inch LCD screen doesn’t have much of a bezel to speak of, and the chiclet tiled keyboard is close to full-size

IDF Facebook Reminder: Do NOT Poke Mahmoud Ahmadinejad [Image Cache]

by Chemmyone on Mar.05, 2010, under Idf, Image cache, Posters, Uncategorized, facebook, israeli defense forces

To prevent any more raids being blown over Facebook status updates , Israeli Defense Forces higher-ups have put these posters around bases to make very clear that soldiers should not be friending enemies of the state. Noted! Besides, I hear Syrian President Bashar Assad is a real jerk on Farmville. [ Thanks, tipster! ]

Rii Mini Wireless Laser Pointer Keyboard: A Brando Story [Brando]

by Chemmyone on Mar.05, 2010, under Brando, Keyboard laser pointer, Keyboards, Uncategorized

It was 3:59 AM Hong Kong, and Brando’s offices reeked of Vodka and sweat. The design intern cowered from the men that encircled him. “Reach into the parts bag,” one of them hissed, “and make us something we’ll like.” Silhouetted by a single yellowed bulb, with memories of design school lectures still fresh in his brain, the intern hesistated.

Seriously, nothing shows better the power of the 1000fps Phantom camera than a scary masked man cracking a watermelon open with a baseball bat. But it freaks me out.

RT-N56U Router From The Starship Enterprise Lands…Err, From ASUS, I Mean [Routers]

by Chemmyone on Mar.04, 2010, under Asus, Routers, Uncategorized

I just don’t know what to think about this router. I’ve been staring at it for minutes now, wondering how in 802.11n’s name it was created in ASUS’ laboratory. ASUS hasn’t been too forthcoming with details on the RT-N56U, which was announced at CeBIT this week, and until we hear back from them we’ll just have to entertain you with these small slivers of detail: it has dual band support with the 5GHz band being used, is compatible with both printers and scanners, and is very fast apparently—with 300,000 concurrent sessions available.
