According to Jonathan Schwartz —then Sun’s CEO—that’s what Steve Jobs told him over the phone after Sun presented Looking Glass , a desktop concept similar to Mac OS X’s. After that, Schwartz put Steve in his place: “Steve, I was just watching your last presentation, and Keynote looks identical to Concurrence – do you own that IP?” Concurrence was a presentation product built by Lighthouse Design, a company I’d help to found and which Sun acquired in 1996. Lighthouse built applications for NeXTSTEP, the Unix based operating system whose core would become the foundation for all Mac products after Apple acquired NeXT in 1996.

Craig Mod, a deadtree book designer, delivers the most considered explication of how new the model of “books” on the iPad actually is. Simply put, it allows 1:1 digital versions of books and their form.

When the iPad was unveiled in January, everyone could agree on one thing: it did look a lot like a big iPhone. Begeek.fr extrapolates Apple’s design consistency to its next two devices, launching in 2012 and 2014. I hear the iBoard’s going to implement twenty finger multi-touch and the iMat’s even going to support Flash.

Haleron iLet Mini HAL Is a Modest Tablet With a Modest Price [Tablets]

If the iPad seems a bit extravagant and the JooJoo’s sordid past turns you off, the 7″ iLet Mini HAL might be device for you. It’s no powerhouse, but at least you’ll be able to say you own a tablet. The 600MHz VIA CPU isn’t blazing fast and the 7″ touch screen isn’t luxuriously wide. The 2GB of flash memory isn’t great

No one likes getting stuck in traffic, but some roadblocks are better than others. A few of the best: an exceptionally cute string of ducklings; an ice cream truck with a flat tire; a stunning spread of 800 LED-equipped books. Earlier this week, the books blocked traffic on Water Street in Brooklyn, New York.

I wish there were light bulbs that could actually illuminate a room exactly like candles. In the meantime, the Light Bulb Effect substitutes hot filaments, glass, and vacuum for real wax and wicks. Helbert Ferreira and Remi Melander, I love you.

Instead of hiding dust-ball-hunting spaghetti cable monsters behind furniture, I’ve decided to embrace chaos and transform it. Actually, my wife has. These decorative cable clips seem perfect for it, and simpler than squiggling cords on the wall . [ PA-Design via Unplggd ]
