Several people are reporting that there are odd charges on credit cards they’ve used to make purchases from online retailer Monoprice. This is what the company had to say: A few of our customers recently reported to us that information from credit cards they used on the Monoprice website had been misused. We promptly began an investigation with the help of expert computer forensic investigators to determine if any card data had been stolen from our computers. To date, the investigators have found no evidence that card information has been stolen from Monoprice’s computer network

Maingear Managed to Shove a Full Numeric Keypad Onto Its 15-Inch mX-L 15 Laptop [Laptops]

For whatever reason, Maingear decided that they should stick a full numeric keypad onto a 15-inch laptop. And using whatever magic, they managed to pull it off without creating a monster. I’ve got a 12-inch, a 15-inch, and a 17-inch laptop within an arms reach, yet none of them—not even the 17-incher—have a full number pad. This makes Maingear’s mX-L 15 feel like the odd man out, but boy could it be useful for quicker data entry

Macmillan’s Future Of Textbooks Looks a Lot Like Wikipedia [Ebooks]

Textbook publisher Macmillan is hip the ways of the internet, see! They’re rolling out a new product/concept/news item called DynamicBooks , which lets instructors change the content of online textbooks, even if they didn’t write them. And why not? The practicality of the DynamicBooks concept will almost immediately be overshadowed by kneejerk criticism, so let’s just get that out of the way now: Yes, the editing method resembles Wikipedia, and yes, a professor could conceivably replace a passage that conflicts with his research, partially out of genuine belief but more out of spite against the guy who got his work published in A Comparative Gender Theorist’s Guide to Infant Osteopathy instead of said professor, but that’s not what DynamicBooks is for, or what it will be used for.

Eee PCs may not be as ubiquitous now as they were a year or two ago, but this T101MT model has popped up in France with its swiveling multitouch display and Windows 7 OS, looking mighty fiiiiine. That display is a 10.1-inch LED backlit resistive multitouch with 1024 x 600 resolution. Inside is an Intel Atom N450 processor—better known as one of the new Pine Trail chips —and either 1GB or 2GB of DDRR2 RAM

Garmin Neverfone Nuvifone G60 Ships Next Week To Someone, Somewhere [Garmin]

by Chemmyone on Jul.24, 2009, under 3g, 3gs, Ads, Art, Cellphones, Hd, Home Automation, Linux, Make, Navi, Navigation, News, Os, PC, Pro, Rc, Rf, S60, Stores, Taiwan, Tegra, Ui, Video, Windows Mobile, dash, gps, phone, pnds, pre, price, ps, smartphone, star, store, wait, windows

Garmin, which has been fairly frank about how totally, like, hard it is to make a new smartphone, has finally announced they’ll be shipping the Nuvifone S60 to Taiwan on the 27th. It only took the—wait, 19 months ? It was January of 2008 when we first caught wind of Garmin’s widening ambitions, and grabbed our first joyful glimpse of the navigation-centric handset, followed by an (also joyful!) hands-on . But that was in February, nearly a year after the announcement. And also, again, that was February , about six months ago. The ASUS-built Nuvifone was uniformly impressive from the start—with a custom-built Linux OS, creative location-aware applications, clean styling—but it’ll have a much tougher go of it in the age of app stores, especially against the 3GS, Pre, and Hero, which have pretty impressive GPS integration in their own right. Sadly all we’re learning today is that the G60—to be followed closely by the much less exciting Windows Mobile M20 —is only shipping in Taiwan for now, which we can at least take to mean the product is finally ready. US release, decidedly not happening in Q3 of last year , is still unknown, as is the price. [ Garmin ]
