Today HP announced the V1020h, a 720p-recording, SDHC card-reading pocketcam. It has a built-in USB plug and an HDMI port for sharing, but the real noteworthy tidbit here is the pricetag: $109. There’s not much more info on the V1020h’s specs quite yet, but at $109 it’s a good $30 cheaper than the least expensive pocketcams we tested in our most recent Battlemodo . It’s purple and it’s slated to hit shelves this summer.

60 Per-cent Cheaper CCFL Lamps Could Outshine LED Backlighting in TVs [TVs]

Cold cathode fluorescent lamp (CCFL) backlights are fast disappearing due to the more efficient and brighter LED swaggering onto the TV scene, but the Japanese company Sanken Electric claims its new CCFL technology is 60 per cent cheaper to produce. Too little, too late for the unfashionable technology? Sanken reckons TVs perform just as well using two of its lamps as opposed to the six normally required. As production won’t start until this summer, it’s unlikely we won’t see them in TV sets for at least another year—and by then, LEDs will reign supreme

Palm’s Mojo devkit has leaked to the web ahead of schedule—they had announced it would arrive in late summer, and instead developers are treated to the SDK right now. Mojo is of the utmost importance to Palm: Without a huge and vibrant developer scene churning out tons of apps, the Pre might not excel as a platform enough to challenge the iPhone

by Chemmyone on Jun.23, 2009, under Home Automation, Uncategorized, Vf551xvt, Vf552xvt, Vizio, Vizio internet apps, yahoo widgets

Vizio’s feeling confident enough about their VF551XVT 55-inch LED-backlit TV they’re showing it off against Samsung sets now (though these kind of fights are rarely fair) and offering some harder specs. The price has creeped up $200 from what they’d announced in January to $2199, and the date’s slipped a bit to the tail-end of summer: Vizio’s promising late August/early September.

Looks like this newfangled ice technology isn’t just for elite-level athletes anymore! Crunchgear says the suits were designed by Japanese company Haruyama, who have created pouches up near the armpits for specially designed ice packs, which supposedly keep your body nice and cool (see: possibly meaningless graphic to the left)

Layar: First Mobile Augmented Reality Browser Is Your Personal Life HUD [Augmented Reality]

by Chemmyone on Jun.16, 2009, under 3g, 3gs, Ads, Android, Art, Blockquote, Camera, Hd, Home Automation, Make, Os, PC, Palm, Palm pre, Pro, Rc, Ui, apple, gps, iPhone 3G, iphone 3gs, phone, pre, screen, smartphone, summer, time, tour

Layar combines GPS, camera, and compass to identify your surroundings and overlay information on screen, in real time. It is available for Android now and it will be available for iPhone soon, but exclusively for the 3GS. The reason is that Layar needs a compass to work, as Maarten Lens-FitzGerald—from developer SPRXmobile—tells us: We are definitely going for the new iPhone 3GS because of the compass! We’re aiming for release after summer, but we depend on Apple accepting it
